What happens when the colors and wildlife of the tropics meet the rugged beauty of the mountains?
That question became the foundation of Tropical Mountain, the first collection from MoonSun Gear™. Today, that original idea has taken another step forward with the release of the Flamingo Mountain original painting.
Where It All Began
The story starts in Mammoth Lakes, California, a small mountain town where I discovered MoonSun Gear™ and began developing the creative vision behind the brand.
Originally from Miami, Florida, I carried a connection to tropical environments, vibrant colors, and wildlife. Surrounded by the mountains of California, I started imagining a world where animals you wouldn't typically associate with a mountain landscape could exist in one.
Instead of choosing between the two environments, I decided to bring them together.
That idea became Tropical Mountain.
Four Animals. Two Worlds. One Collection.
The original Tropical Mountain collection brought together four animals: the flamingo, alligator, dolphin, and bobcat.
Each animal represents a different part of the concept, combining tropical wildlife with the atmosphere of the mountains. The collection was an opportunity to experiment with unexpected contrasts and create a visual world that felt distinctly MoonSun Gear™.
The Flamingo Mountain design became one expression of that idea, bringing a recognizable tropical animal into a stylized mountain setting.
From Digital Art to Physical Painting
Flamingo Mountain began as a digital artwork that I developed into apparel. What started on a screen became part of the visual identity of MoonSun Gear™.
Eventually, I wanted to bring that design into the physical world.
Creating the painting meant translating the original composition into a new medium, using oil paint, glitter, and epoxy resin across an 80 × 100 cm canvas. The painting process introduced physical brushwork and a reflective finish that give the artwork a presence beyond its digital origins.
The finished piece is not simply an image transferred onto canvas. It is a physical interpretation of an idea that has evolved through different stages of my creative journey.
I've also documented the process through videos, sharing moments from the making of the work and the journey from the original concept to the finished painting.
More Than a Mountain Landscape
For me, Tropical Mountain represents the freedom to combine influences that might not traditionally belong together.
Miami and Mammoth Lakes are different environments, each with its own character. Bringing them together through art gave me a way to explore that contrast and develop a concept that could exist across digital art, apparel, and original paintings.
Flamingo Mountain is part of that ongoing journey, connecting the origins of the collection with a new chapter in the development of MoonSun Gear™.
